Carlos’ reputation precedes him. This witty wag of a man in a top hat, a barong tagalog, a cassette recorder and portable microphone, a clear book of pictures and a messenger bag full of props blazes a trail by which tours are guided in the Philippines.

Tourists typically give Manila a wide berth, or else use the smoggy, chaotic Philippine capital as a mere layover en route to one of the country's coastal resorts. More fool them. I have been advised by some of my Phillipino friends to just quickly pass through Manila and see other areas, but from your shots and commentary I would spend at least a couple of days there to experience the place
